The "Words Matter" project began when I was reacting to the irresponsibly defamatory coverage of the London Bombings on July 7, 2005, by CNN and BBC.  They continuously used terms like "Islamic extremist" or "Islamic terrorist," thereby projecting on all Muslims the behaviors of a few.

The result of continuous behaviors like this is that now we have global problems of Islamophobia, foisted on us by no less than the President of the United States, last August. 

Some thoughtful Muslims are speaking up and challenging this unjustifiable and dangerous situation.  On January 28, 2007, Professors Steven Salaita and Bassam Haddad gave an excellent presentation in Bethesda, MD.  The audio from their presentation is available on the "On Demand" stream under "Islamophobia."
